For the government project of laying a water pipeline through the Bosporus, Firat Plastic Kaucuk Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S., Istanbul recently produced 4,000 m of large-diameter pipe within record time. 300,000 cubic meters of drinking water are to be transported daily from the Ömerli reservoir on the Asian side of Istanbul to the European part of the city. To enable the pipes to withstand the high pressures of the water flowing through and the surrounding water, they come with 109.1 mm thick walls – the highest wall thickness so far produced. Dienstag, April 29th, 2008MONOS+ 37D – the best single-screw for PP and PE 100
Mittwoch, April 23rd, 2008Our expertise, our quality-awareness and a unique price/performance ratio – these have helped establish Cincinnati as the global market leader in extrusion equipment for large-diameter PE pipes and PP (corrugated) pipes. To defend this position, we are continuously working on further advancement of our successful product lines. Thus, all Monos+ extruders are equipped with 37D plasticizing units. Combined with the latest screw geometry, grooved bushing and the proven pft® (power feed technology), this ensures a further improvement in melt homogeneity and a further reduction in melt temperature. The previous model, Monos 60, achieved an output of ~ 450 kg/h – on the Monos+ 60 the record has been outstripped by another 40% with a guaranteed. LATI: Polymers replace brass fittings for sanitary, heating and plumbing applications
Montag, April 21st, 2008KWD-globalpipe, 2008-04-15, No.277. Italian compounding specialist LATI Industria Termoplastici SpA, Vedano Olona, expanded its portfolio of metal substitution products with new grades for its LATAMID, LATIGLOSS, LARAMID and LARTON ranges. Due to their excellent mechanical properties they are suitable for use in sanitary, heating and plumbing applications instead of brass and other metals that have previously been used.
The good processibility of the polymers means that such components can be manufactured in a single injection moulding process, which leads to significant manufacturing cost reductions. Further potential for cost savings can be achieved by integrating functional components at the injection moulding stage, removing the need for downstream assembly steps. (weiterlesen…)
RGI: Radiant heated windows that bring comfort to homes and offices
Donnerstag, April 17th, 2008 The cost of glass in a building is unavoidable, and newer buildings use more glass. However, windows – even double paned insulated windows – are the weak link in a building’s insulation. Everyone talks about saving energy but windows are responsible for a commercial or residential building’s largest energy loss and cause for human discomfort.
The window and heating industries have not been able to solve this problem. Double paned and triple paned window units, films, low-e glass, electric baseboard heaters, forced air heaters, and hot water radiant systems are used. However, none of these effectively stops the building heat loss, drafts and discomfort caused by this window energy loss. (weiterlesen…)
BDH: Heating sector boom abroad and market recovery in Germany
Dienstag, April 15th, 2008
In 2007 the German market for heating systems fell by 28 percent
In France the growth in sales of high efficiency heating systems was particularly strong, with condensing boilers increasing by 15 percent to 150,000 units and heat pumps by 30 percent to 70,000 units. The market for solar heating units increased by 2 percent to 235,000 m² (approx. 23,500 units). (weiterlesen…)

Geberit plans to launch a fully developed system using push fittings on the market in 2009
Donnerstag, April 3rd, 2008This headline news emerged almost as an afterthought at the end of an interview with Dr. Karl Spachmann, managing director of Geberit Vertriebs GmbH , in a highly informative specialist article in RAS 3/2008 under the title “Will push fit technology see a breakthrough in 2008?”, assessing the answers given to 7 questions by 8 managing directors of leading system suppliers. Unfortunately 7 of those questioned (including Geberit) had a push fitting in their range, which made the favourable opinion regarding the prospects for push fittings very one-sided and many simply concurred with the positive view of the trade. SIKORA launches the first gauge with a LED as a light source
Dienstag, April 1st, 2008KWD-globalpipe, 2008-04-01, No.275. (Measuring Systems) SIKORA makes the invisible visible! The newly developed LED 8025 XY fascinates in technology as well as design. As precursor of new measuring dimensions LED 8025 XY promises a reliable measurement of prevalent hose and tube types and transparent products with highest precision. With this development SIKORA demonstrates new technological potentials for measuring technology on hose and tube extrusion lines. More: KWD-globalpipe, 2008-04-01, No.275.
